Bake Sale for Gist Cancer Research
We want to thank Bridget and Kiersten for their effort in reaching out and making a difference.  Together, they raised $535 for GIST Cancer Research Fund.

Dear GCRF,

My name is Bridget Coneys and for my eighth grade project, my friend and I held a bake sale to raise money for GIST Cancer Research. My cousin, Jason Delorenzo, has GIST Cancer and it is in his honor that this donation is being made. I would like to give credit to Kiersten Maresca for participating in this project.

Sincerely,
Bridget Coneys

A Story of Fund Raising Success, Friendship and Fun -Burien, WA

Event by Jeanne Laegreid (on right) - On behalf of all those who participated in the Classy for the Cure Evening on November 02, 2007.  I am pleased to present GCRF with a check for $6,200 to continue to support research centers in the study of cures for GIST cancer.

GCRF fully supports Jeanene and thanks her for on behalf of all GISTers who will benefit from the research that will take palce, thanks to such a generous donation.   There is no way to tell just when or how a cure will be found.  Every individual, every group, every event continues to add up to the support that our dedicated researchers need to do their work.  Jeanene has shown that one person can make a huge difference and that difference could turn out to be the one that results in a breakthrough.Thank you Jeanene and we are looking forward to next year's Classy for the Cure Evening!

With spring, comes the real excitement!  In the spring of 2008 we will begin our presentations.  We will be providing the researchers with the funds they need to do their important work toward finding better treatments and maybe even a cure for GIST.  This is our humble way of saying thanks for their hard work and dedication in their relentless pursuit to help all GIST patients.  Thank you to each and every one who has made a donation, and for your efforts that make this all possible.   We take this opportunity to remind you that every penny of your donations will go to research and that GCRF is an all unpaid volunteer organization.  Thank you for the hope that such generosity brings for all whose lives have been affected by GIST.

Nine years ago all Tania wanted to do is "get the word out" about GIST.  This year's Walk was featured on ABC Televisions evening news, Novartis' camera crew, News 12 and broadcast live over the Internet.  Tania, GREAT JOB!

Dr. Marvel Scott supported GCRF's 2007 Walk for a Cure as ABC News reported the event.

GCRF Plays a Major Role in New Research - "Without fundraising by GCRF it would have not been possible for us to pursue our work on GIST, in particular in the current funding situation and regarding the fact that we are just starting out as an independent laboratory." - Dr. Duensing

Paulo Costa is President and Chief Executive Officer of Novartis Corporation, responsible for the Novartis Group Companies in North America and the Novartis US Foundation, is shown below accepting an award from GCRF on behalf of Novartis Chairman and CEO Daniel Vasella, MD.  This was an outstanding opportunity for GIST patients, caretakers and doctors to meet and converse directly with him in the comfortable surroundings of Congers Lake State Park.

Here Bill Smith chats in Portuguese with Paulo Costas about Paulo's home in Brazil.

And for the fourth year, we were joined by one of the most humble and kindest GIST supporters ever, whose greatness is known the world over, NBA Basketball GREAT, Mr. Walt "Clyde" Frasier.  Hundreds of GISTers got to meet him, shake his hand, ask him questions, got their picture taken and got his autograph. Walt was his usual soft-spoken, generous, self who gave his time to support GCRF's 7th Annual Walk for a Cure.

California Walk - October 21, 2007
A memorable and successful Walk and fantastic turnout was only part of this ground-breaking event.  The new friendships, help from doctors who attended the Walk, the beautiful landscape, as California is known for, and the money raised all added up to new found hope for all of us.  GREAT JOB!  Thank you one and all for your work, dedication and donations.  GIST will someday cave to forces like yours!  Vadim (Schukin) and his wife Natasha, did an absolutely outstanding job, from coordinating and hosting the San Diego Dinner, to setting up the hotels and running the Walk for their first time.  There is no way to thank them enough except for what all the volunteers already did by participating, sharring and donating at the Walk to make the event such a success!
